Justin Grimaldo is a Northern California–based film editor and mixer working primarily out of Humboldt County. In recent years he has focused on cutting custom home-building docu-series, stand-up comedy projects, long-form podcasts, and cinematic wedding films, partnering with directors, small businesses, and independent producers who care deeply about story and character.
Over more than a decade in the industry, Justin has edited a wide range of projects in documentary, narrative, comedy, and branded content—often carrying them from first assembly through final picture and mix. Originally pursuing a path as a director of photography, he spent years behind the camera before realizing that what he loved most was sitting in the edit bay, solving structural problems, shaping performances, and finding the emotional spine of a piece in the timeline.
Justin works primarily in DaVinci Resolve for picture and Logic Pro X for dialogue edit, sound design, and mix, and is also fluent in Adobe Premiere Pro when a project or team calls for it. His production background gives him a practical understanding of how chaotic real-world shoots can be, and he is comfortable working with limited coverage, imperfect lighting, and long, unscripted days—finding clarity, rhythm, and intention in the middle of that chaos.
His approach favors clean, unfussy editing that serves performance and story above everything else. He is known for being collaborative, detail-oriented, and calm under pressure, whether he’s building a cut from hours of verité footage or tightening a carefully scripted scene. Justin’s long-term goal is to cut feature films, while continuing to champion grounded, human-centered storytelling in independent production.
